Admission
1. All users of the Study Centre must be registered (registration of personal information, address, telephone number, e-mail).
For access to the archive funds, registration must be renewed every year.
Scholars are asked to meet with the staff before being formally allowed to consult the materials.
Moreover, the Centre requests a copy of publications in which the documentation of the Archive and Library has been used or, nevertheless, cited.
Opening
2. The Study Centre is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. non-stop.
During the year, Centro Studi "Nicolò Rusca" normally observes the following holidays:
- all civil and religious holidays
- the Thursday and Friday of Holy Week
- the week after Christmas (27 December - 31 December)
- the first three weeks of August
- the holiday of Saint Abbondio, patron of the city and diocese (31 August)
Access to the study room
3. In the study room users are asked to comply with the following regulations:
- do not bring bags, cases, books and mobile phones. They should be deposited at the entrance in the lockers
- do not smoke, drink or eat
- remain quiet
- use the available electrical outlets only for personal computers
Consultation
4. scholars/researchers can directly access the books, periodicals and CD-ROMs of the study room.
After the materials have been consulted, they must be left on the tables. The staff is responsible for putting them back.
5. Users can access the periodicals hallway and the recent books deposit only if authorized, on a case-by-case basis, by the staff.
6. The archive documents can be freely consulted, provided that they were produced during a bishopric that concluded at least 60 years ago.
Currently, the documents up to the bishopric of Luigi Pagani (1926-1930) are available, Pagani included. No exceptions will be made.
The documents can be consulted only in the study room of the Study Centre. They must be requested by filling out the specific forms and
presenting them to the staff. Access to the deposits is prohibited to the public.
Poorly preserved documents and those that may be damaged by consultation can not be consulted.
7. Documents must treated with the utmost care. It is absolutely prohibited to make any type of notes on them, even in pencil, or to rest books
or files on top of them. In the case of loose documents, the pages must remain in the order that they were in inside the file or envelope.
8. The staff does not carry out research on the request of others, nor does it provide information, if not essential, by correspondence.
The help provided to users during consultation is limited to indicating the correct use of the available research tools in the room
(bibliography, indexes, inventories); users admitted to the room are asked to cope with the difficulties of research, ancient writing and the
language of the manuscript by themselves.
Reproduction of bibliographic and archival materials
9. The reproduction of the bibliographic and archival materials (documents written by hand, typed, or printed) is allowed exclusively for the
purpose of study and/or publication. The commercial use of any of the obtained copies is absolutely prohibited.
10. Reproduction is prohibited when the material is poorly preserved or whenever there is a risk that it may get damaged.
11. The bibliographic material can only be reproduced partially, according to legislation in force regarding copyright protection.
Theses and papers restricted by the author are excluded from reproduction.
12. As a rule, it is prohibited to reproduce entire archival units by any technical means. The partial reproduction of the inventories is
allowed unless restricted by the author.
The reproduction of unbound paper documents - by xerox or by photographic device – must be authorized, on a case-by-case basis, by the staff.
Users are asked to limit, as much as possible, the number of xerox reproductions to prevent the deterioration of the documents. The staff has
the right to pose limits on the amount of documents that can be copied by every individual user.
For documents and parchment codices, for bound paper material and for books printed between the 15
th and
17
th centuries, reproduction is only allowed by microfilm, scanner, and photographic device once the permission of
the Study Centre Director has been obtained.
The user is asked to deposit the negatives or an electronic copy of each of the reproductions with the Archive.
13. The reproduction of documents for which there is already a copy at the Study Centre on microfilm, electronic support or photographic
negatives must be made from these existing copies, and will be done by users at their own expense.
14. The reproduction procedures allowed above must be carried out within the rooms of the Study Centre and under the direct control of
the staff.
Publication of documents
15. Users who intend to publish the entire contents of one or more of the consulted documents of the Study Centre must make a request
in writing to the Director of the Centre for the purposes of a timely bibliographic updating and with the understanding that a copy of the
publication will be deposited by the scholar.
Loan
16. Loans are consented only for library volumes published after 1900, for a maximum of 5 volumes and for 30 days. Books and periodicals
located in the study Room and some special funds cannot be loaned.
It is indispensible to fill out a card for every loan and to give it to the staff.
The loan of books is renewable – upon return – for a maximum of two times, provided that the book in the meantime has not been requested by
others.
17. The loan of periodicals, for a total of three years worth, is allowed only for teachers and students residing in the seminary for a
maximum of seven days.

Once the due date is up, the user will be sent a notice.
18. Whenever the loan due date occurs during a closing period for the library, the item must be returned within one week of re-opening.
Sanctions
19. Generally, the non-observance of these regulations will lead to the temporary or permanent exclusion of the user from the Study
Centre based on the Director’s discretion.
20. As far as regards the late return of loaned books or periodicals, after the third notice or whenever the material has been damaged,
the user will be suspended from loans for a period of one year.
